Iranian pomegranate products wholesale: fresh fruit, paste, juice concentrate and arils
Iran is one of the original homes of the pomegranate and a large producer, with main orchards in Markazi (Saveh), Fars (Neyriz), Yazd, Isfahan and the Khorasan provinces. Exporters sell four main product forms: fresh fruit from September to winter, pomegranate paste or molasses (rob-e anar), juice concentrate, and fresh or frozen arils. Buy each form against a written specification, such as variety and size for fresh fruit or Brix and acidity for paste and concentrate, and pay through escrow that releases the money only after you confirm receipt.

Where Iranian pomegranates grow and when they are harvested
Pomegranates are grown in many dry and semi-dry parts of Iran. Well-known growing areas include Saveh in Markazi province, Neyriz in Fars, the Yazd and Isfahan regions, Ferdows in South Khorasan and parts of Khorasan Razavi and Kerman.
Harvest usually runs from late September to early November, depending on altitude and variety. Fruit for export is sorted, packed and often held in cold storage, so fresh supply usually continues into winter. Processing plants make paste and concentrate in the same season, and those products are sold all year.
Main Iranian pomegranate varieties
Iranian trade names refer to taste and origin. Ask the supplier for the variety name, the growing area and a cut-fruit photo of the actual lot, because colour of peel and arils varies within one variety.
| Variety (trade name) | Main area | Taste and appearance | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Malas-e Saveh | Saveh, Markazi | Sweet-sour, large fruit, dark red arils | Fresh export, juice |
| Malas-e Yazdi | Yazd | Sweet-sour, red peel, red arils | Fresh export, juice |
| Rabab-e Neyriz | Neyriz, Fars | Sour-sweet, red arils, good keeping quality | Fresh export, paste, juice |
| Shishe-kap | Ferdows, South Khorasan | Sweet-sour, thin peel, juicy | Domestic and fresh export |
| Sour local types | Several provinces | High acidity | Paste (molasses) and sour concentrate |

Quality checks to ask for
- For fresh fruit: photos of whole and cut fruit from the actual lot, size grading, sunburn and cracking limits, and the cold storage date.
- For paste and concentrate: a lab report with Brix, acidity (as citric acid), pH and microbiology for the production batch.
- Whether the paste is 100% pomegranate or contains added sugar, salt or other fruit juice. Labels in many markets must state this.
- Pesticide residue analysis if your market applies strict limits, such as the EU.
- Production licence and batch number on processed products, plus the production and expiry dates.
- A sample from the same batch before the first full order. See /guides/ordering-samples-from-iranian-suppliers.
MOQ, shelf life and storage
Fresh fruit is usually sold by the reefer container, and some exporters accept mixed loads with other fruit. Paste and retail jars usually have an MOQ per pallet or per label design, while concentrate is sold by the drum or container.
Fresh pomegranates keep for weeks to a few months in cold storage at about 5–7 °C and high humidity; ask the exporter for the storage history. Unopened paste in jars or bottles usually keeps 18–24 months at room temperature, and concentrate needs chilled or frozen storage. Price depends mostly on variety, size, Brix, packaging, season and order size.
Documents and shipping
Fresh fruit needs a phytosanitary certificate. Processed products usually need a health certificate and a lab analysis. All shipments need a commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. See /guides/food-certificates-from-iran and /guides/export-documents-from-iran.
Fresh fruit and concentrate travel in reefer containers by sea from Bandar Abbas, often via Jebel Ali, or by reefer truck to Iraq, Turkey and Central Asia. Shipments to Russia can use the Caspian ports and the INSTC corridor. Import rules differ by country; check your own country's rules on trade with Iran before you order.

FAQ
When are fresh Iranian pomegranates available?
Harvest usually runs from late September to early November. With cold storage, many exporters continue to ship into winter. Ask for the harvest and storage dates on every offer.
What is the difference between pomegranate paste and juice concentrate?
Paste or molasses (rob-e anar) is juice cooked down into a thick, dark, sour or sweet-sour sauce for cooking and retail. Juice concentrate is evaporated juice, often around 65 Brix, sold in drums to beverage and food factories for reconstitution. They have different specifications and usually different HS lines.
Is Iranian pomegranate paste 100% pomegranate?
Some products are pure pomegranate and some contain added sugar or salt. Ask for the ingredient list and a lab report for the batch. Your label must match the real recipe.
What HS code applies to pomegranate products?
Fresh pomegranates are usually under 0810.90 and frozen arils under 0811.90. Juice and concentrate are usually under 2009.89, while paste can fall under different lines depending on its recipe. Check the full code with your customs broker.
How are fresh pomegranates shipped?
They travel in reefer containers or reefer trucks at a controlled temperature, usually around 5–7 °C. Sea shipments leave from Bandar Abbas, often via Jebel Ali, and road shipments go to neighbouring countries. The supplier adds the checked freight cost to your invoice before you pay.
Can I get private-label pomegranate paste?
Many Iranian food packers fill jars and bottles with the buyer's label. Agree the recipe, label text and language in chat, and ask for the MOQ per design.
Does ASL Market check pomegranate quality?
No. ASL Market does not physically inspect goods. Ask for photos, samples and lab reports, use third-party inspection if you need it, and rely on escrow until you confirm receipt.
