Product details

Saffron (Crocus sativus) is a plant of the iris family and the genus Crocus, and is considered the most expensive Iranian spice used in cooking. The saffron bulb has a brown husk that protects it. After the bulb is planted, the growth process begins, forming a stem (tige) which then buds. The crimson stigma and style of the saffron flower are harvested; after the flower is opened, they are dried. This part is used as a seasoning and coloring agent for foods. The harvesting method for this plant is very difficult and has historically been collected manually. It has a price close to 15,000 US dollars per kilogram. Most sources consider Sarayan County to be the birthplace of saffron. The largest amount of saffron in the world is produced in Razavi Khorasan Province, Torbat-e Heydarieh County, and then in Qaenat County and Sarayan County in South Khorasan. Currently, Iran harvests over 99% of the world's saffron. Iran is the largest exporter of saffron, and China is the largest importer of saffron globally. The global export value of this product is 275.84 million US dollars, sometimes reaching billions of dollars.
