History of Broken Ceylon Tea: Ceylon tea, from Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon), is one of the world's most famous teas. Tea production in Sri Lanka began in the 19th century during British colonial rule, replacing coffee crops after disease outbreaks. Ceylon tea is made from Camellia sinensis, the same plant used for black, green, white, and oolong teas. Its distinct flavor and characteristics depend on the climatic and geographical conditions of its cultivation in Sri Lanka.
