Iranian tiles and ceramics wholesale: porcelain, ceramic floor and wall tiles, sanitary ware
Iran is one of the larger ceramic tile producers in the world, with its biggest factory cluster in Yazd province (around Meybod and Ardakan) and other plants in Isfahan, Khorasan and elsewhere. Exporters sell glazed and polished porcelain, ceramic floor and wall tiles in formats up to large slabs, plus vitreous-china sanitary ware. Buy against the product group in ISO 13006, the commercial grade, the size and the shade and calibre of each batch, and pay through escrow that releases the money only after you confirm receipt.

Tile types by ISO 13006 water absorption
ISO 13006 (EN 14411 in Europe) classifies tiles by forming method and water absorption. Low water absorption means a denser, stronger tile that is more suitable for floors, outdoor use and frost. Most Iranian exporters state the group on their technical sheet; if they do not, ask for it.
Iranian factories also follow Iranian national standards, and the product's national standard mark is usually printed on the carton.
| Group (dry-pressed) | Water absorption (E) | Common trade name | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| BIa | E ≤ 0.5% | Porcelain (glazed, polished or full-body) | Floors, commercial areas, outdoor, frost zones |
| BIb | 0.5% < E ≤ 3% | Stoneware, semi-porcelain | Floors, light commercial |
| BIIa | 3% < E ≤ 6% | Ceramic floor tile | Residential floors |
| BIIb | 6% < E ≤ 10% | Ceramic floor tile | Residential floors, indoor |
| BIII | E > 10% | Wall tile (monoporosa) | Indoor walls, kitchens, bathrooms |
Sizes, grades and technical ratings
Common floor formats are 30×30, 40×40, 60×60, 60×120, 80×80 and 120×120 cm, and common wall formats are 25×40, 30×60, 30×90 and 40×120 cm. Large-format slabs are made by some plants. Thickness usually ranges from about 7 to 11 mm for standard tiles.
Iranian factories sort tiles into commercial grades, usually called grade 1 (also export or first choice), grade 2 and grade 3, based on surface defects. Grade names are not defined by ISO 13006, so ask for the factory's own definition and photos of the grade you are buying.
| Rating | What it tells you | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| PEI class I–V | Abrasion resistance of glazed floor tiles; III for residential floors, IV–V for heavier traffic | ISO 10545-7 |
| Breaking strength / modulus of rupture | Load the tile can take | ISO 10545-4 |
| Slip rating R9–R13 | Slip resistance for wet or ramped areas | DIN 51130 and national standards |
| Frost resistance | Suitability for outdoor use in cold climates | ISO 10545-12 |
| Shade and calibre code | Colour batch and exact size batch; mix only one shade and calibre in one room | Printed on each carton |
Sanitary ware
Iranian sanitary ware plants make vitreous-china WCs (wall-hung and floor-standing), washbasins, pedestals and urinals. For export, agree the flush volume and the outlet type (P-trap or S-trap) and the rough-in distance used in your market. Ask which standard the product is tested to, for example EN 997 for WC pans or the national standard of your market.
Fittings such as seats, cisterns and flush mechanisms are often sourced separately; confirm what is included in each set.
Quality checks before shipment
- Technical data sheet with ISO 13006 group, water absorption, breaking strength, PEI and slip rating.
- Photos of a full open carton from the actual production batch, plus the shade and calibre codes.
- Grade confirmation: what defects are allowed in the grade you are paying for.
- Flatness, edge straightness and rectified or non-rectified edges.
- Packing: carton strength, corner protection, pallet wrapping and number of square metres per carton and per pallet.
- For larger orders, a third-party pre-shipment inspection at the factory. ASL Market does not physically inspect goods; see /guides/pre-shipment-inspection-iran.
MOQ, packing, HS codes and shipping
Tiles are heavy, so a 20-foot container usually reaches its weight limit before it is full; that is why most tile orders ship in 20-foot containers. The usual MOQ is one container per design, and some exporters accept a mixed container of several designs. Price depends mostly on group (porcelain or ceramic), size, surface finish, grade, thickness and quantity.
Glazed and unglazed tiles fall under HS 6907.21, 6907.22 or 6907.23 by water absorption, and ceramic sanitary ware of porcelain under 6910.10; check the full code with your customs broker. Exports leave by sea from Bandar Abbas (Shahid Rajaee), often via Jebel Ali, and by truck or rail to Iraq, Afghanistan and Central Asia. Typical documents are the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. Import rules differ by country; check your own country's rules on trade with Iran before you order.

FAQ
What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles?
Porcelain tiles (group BIa) absorb 0.5% water or less, so they are denser, stronger and suitable for floors, commercial areas and outdoor use. Ceramic tiles absorb more water and are used mainly on indoor floors and walls. Ask for the ISO 13006 group on the data sheet.
What does grade 1 mean for Iranian tiles?
Grade 1 is the factory's best visual sort, with the fewest surface defects. Grade names are factory definitions, not an ISO standard, so ask for the written definition and photos of the actual batch.
Why do shade and calibre codes matter?
Each production batch has a slightly different colour (shade) and exact size (calibre). Tiles from different batches can look different or not line up in one room. Order enough from one shade and calibre for each project area.
How many square metres fit in a container?
It depends on tile thickness and size, because a 20-foot container usually reaches its weight limit first. Ask the exporter for square metres per carton, per pallet and per container for the exact product.
What is the HS code for ceramic tiles?
Ceramic and porcelain tiles fall under HS 6907, with subheadings 6907.21, 6907.22 and 6907.23 by water absorption. Check the full national code with your customs broker.
Can I order a mixed container of designs?
Many exporters accept mixed containers, sometimes with a minimum per design. Agree the mix, grades and packing list in chat before you pay.
